Iphone Mms Update For Iphone 3G and 3GS Causes Little Problems to the AT&T Network

When Apple and AT&T activated the MMS feature for iPhone users yesterday, a lot of people talked about how the AT&T network will crash given the huge amount of data that the network will have had to handle all of a sudden. And that fear had a solid foundation, considering the fact that there are lots of iPhone users who have been waiting for this feature for a while. (Read more here).
It seems that the AT&T network was quite capable of taking in the stress without almost any negative impact. The MMS update for Iphone 3G and 3GS went as smoothly as it could and only but a few people are reporting any problems with this new “toy” that they can play with on their much beloved iPhone.

Yes it does, did you update on iTunes? then turn off your phone and reboot it. There should be a camera icon in your texting screen.
It does not work. I have updated and reset. The camera icon is there but there is an error anytime I send a message. Other iPhone users in my area are experiencing the same thing. Typical AT&T rollout
did the author of this article look at ATT’s own facebook page. there are hundreds of people having issues getting it to work. hardly a smooth rollout. I personally just hung up with AT&T and was told they have known issues and don’t expect things to be fixed for at least 24 hours.
Michelle, if you’ve come to expect such negative things from AT&T, why don’t you switch companies and quit your bitching? You’re the same type of person that complains that the Iphone isn’t durable, yet drops it daily and spills water in it. You are the problem, not AT&T.
Your attempt at personally insulting me due to a post not directed at you, shows your lack of decorum and quite possibly intelligence. Perhaps you are not aware that AT&T and iphone have an exclusive agreement. I don’t drop my phone in water and I think it is quite durable. The application appears to work properly. The phased rollout and lack of preparation have been consistent across the network since the inception. Are these words too big for you? Let me try again. Service problem at AT&T. Apple good. Michelle, I am also experiencing issues with the MMS. I can actually send messages fine but when I receive and MMS I get the same old message that used to appear. And Yo Momma (your name explains your immaturity), you probably don’t even pay for your own phone. If you did you would realize that there are plenty of issues with the AT&T network. I’ve been with Verizon Wireless for the past 10 years and have had no issues with service or problems with phones. I made the mistake of chasing the most glorious of phones (which I love) and found myself in the middle of a network that can’t handle the load of its followers. I haven’t had dropped calls for the last five years and thought that was an issue long gone until I went to AT&T. I’m sure a fix will come out for the minor issues of the MMS but I appreciate and rely upon post of others to find possible corrections.
FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!! It doesn’t work AT ALL!!!! I have tried since the morning of the 25th to send pics and it will not send. I have downloaded everything from iTunes….updated my iPhone….turned it off and then back on and still nothing. Called for help and they said to reset my phone and do it all over again, I have done that TWICE now and it still doesnt work!?
Michelle, you dumb twat, there is absolutely no problem with the mms at all. If you load it correctly and reset your phone it works perfectly! I’ve been using it all morning! I’m well aware of the Apple/AT&T agreement largely due to the fact I used to manage 4 AT&T stores, and had to deal with dolts like you all day who can’t seem to perform even the most minor electronic functions. Whilst your attempt at throwing large words together in poorly formed sentences is your only chance at sounding sane, that still can’t save you. The only problem with AT&T is they don’t require an electronics class prior to purchase, because that is the only way to stop a blabbering idiot like from complaining! I’m even impressed you discovered how to post something on here, shit I’m proud! You originally said it didn’t work, now you are stating it works fine. It was obviously a case of phone smarter than user. Your points are inane, and big words don’t prove intelligence, but merely ownership of a thesaurus. I’m suprised you can even breathe.
Your point, Kevin, was even more ridiculous than the twats. First of all, if your going to make assumptions with out any supporting evidence about me “not paying my own bill”, obviously accusing me of being a kid with a big mouth, you might want to make sure not to start a sentence with “and” you idiot. Also the case at hand is picture messaging, not calls dropped. Dropped calls are determined by signal strength and location, not the network unless otherwise stated. I live in an area with horrible connection an yett I’ve never dropped a call! Amazing isn’t it? The fact is I pay for my own phone, and make more in 3 months than you most likely do in a year. Get back to me when you can form complete sentences.

Your continued rant indicates you got your first full time job and because of that you think you make more than God. Well when you make real money you won’t find it necessary to make childish rants. It’s cool that you are a single phone user in a small area with little strain on the AT&T system but I speak as an owner of a corporation that supplies cel phones to all of it’s employees in a large city. AT&T has more dropped calls because their towers are overloaded and when you cross from one tower to the next and it is full you get dropped. We have business ties with Verizon and have done training on the networks and are very familiar with those operations. Your next move is to restrain from immaturity and try to be helpful to people by sharing facts that are beneficial.
I think I might understand why you “used” to manage a store. You lack style, manners and general understanding. You also are uninformed about the regional problems with AT&T’s ability to provide the service to all subscribers. I would recommend you do some research before foaming at the mouth, but I doubt it would help. Your insults are childish at best. I find it sad that you seem to get off by using the forum the sick joy you are getting through immature posts. Income doesn’t define worth. You will find yourself wasting it if you think it does. I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person so I will let you spin your wheels in your own filth.
To all the others:
AT&T and Apple have both confirmed that the application is functioning properly, but that AT&T is having regional issues. They are working to correct the problem, but will not be fully operational until Wednesday at the earliest.
I thought that mms was not working on my phone as well. I had the camera Icon and could send and receive, but what was being sent and received was just the file name of the photo. Later that day ( the 25th) as soon as i got the text from AT&T saying MMS was now available on my phone, everything worked fine. I believe you have to wait for the confirmation text from AT&T in some areas, my friends and I all had the same issue.

Michelle, the reason I said I used to work at AT&T is because if I spent one more day dealing with people like you I was likely to eat my Iphone in an attempt at Apple induced suicide. There is no battle of whits here. Comparitively I’m a major league pitcher, and this is like grandma asked me to play catch. You keep trying to figure out the new mms system, and while I’m waiting you can send me your phone number and I’ll shoot you a picture of my ass so you can kiss it.
Well, look at it this way, we only have to put up with this for another year and three months. Then when we all jump ship to verizon, ATT will go bankrupt because they can’t pay for thier pathetic upgrades. Then verizon will buy them out making them a better company in the long run. I had verizon for over 2 years and never had a problem that didn’t fix itself. Also I it’s kind of fun to watch people insult each other. I knew what I was getting into joining ATT, I just wanted the phone. Isn’t that the only reason we are with ATT? Maybe we should spend more time working on helping fight exclusive deals so this doesn’t happen again. You should have any carrier with any phone. Spend more time helping the cause, not fighting each other.

reboot iphone and try it.

I just talked with ATT Tech Support they are having problems with sending and receiving Pictures and Video. The Tech told me they are working on the problem. So, ATT worse fear did come true!!!
it works perfectly fine with me.. I updated to the new itunes 9.0.1 and it still wouldn’t work.. but after turning my phone off and turning it back on i saw the little camera icon in my messages..
Well, it seems to work for me. I don’t know why other people are havin’ problems. I just updated everything, iTunes and the phone settings, rebooted, and it works.
I updated my phone as well and i do have the little camera icon in my message but it also said video. Were can you find video i want to use it but cant find it!
I have been an AT&T customer for 18 years. During that time I have also had Nextel, sprint and currently have Verizon on a second phone. I will be the first on this forum to say AT&T outperforms them all. From coast to coast less dropped calls and better network coverage. The MMS on my 3 iPhones gave me the error message at first but works perfectly now. As with any large IT rollout there are going to be issues at the onset.
Got the update notice…. now my damn phone won’t work at all, went into recovery mode, and just hangs. This happened with the last update too. Now, I’m effed and have no phone at all. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
My iPhone also would not download the new MMS software, also went into recovery mode, and won’t do ANYTHING. I got it in March, and this has never happened before. Do I really have to “restore” it to the original settings and lose all my contact numbers?? Can I take this to an AT&T or Apple store to have it repaired without losing important information? I’d hate to think I might lose all this info at no fault of my own…

yup- att screwed this one up. have the people i know that upgraded their phones can’t get MMS to work. Hard to say ATT network can handle the load when half the people can’t use the service.
AT&T’s customer care center has a recorded announcement up informing people that there’s MMS latency issues around the country and that while the issue is being worked on, there’s no estimated time for an actual fix.

Joanna, I couldn’t have said it better myself. The majority of the problem is the user. Granted the MMS might be having some problems, all of the people that said they “can’t even get the camera to pop up in the messaging screen” are just incompetent and inadequate. Mine works perfectly fine!

Wow, people are really mean in this forum! For the record, AT&T has stated that there have been problems with the MMS update, and I unfortunately experienced one, even though I went through the update procedure exactly as directed. After beginning the update, a message from iTunes said that an error had occured, my iPhone went into recovery mode, and I had to restore it to the original factory settings. I have since recovered all my apps/music/contacts, and the iPhone, along with the new MMS service, is working without a hitch.
For those of you who feel the need to be so spiteful in this forum: find something more productive to do than to harrass people who are looking for tech support. I made no mistakes in updating my iPhone software – the UPDATE caused the problem with my phone, not me, and AT&T has verified this. It was NOT a “user error” in my case.
One of the problems in this country is that people have lost the ability to be kind and respectful to others. This forum is not a place for you to trash talk. If you can’t provide anything meaninful or useful, then kindly move along. No one cares what you have to say.
