Vidyartha College FaceBook Virus May Be Harmful

It seems like the FaceBook viruses keep on coming. It’s the largest social networking website in the world therefore it’s normal that such things happen, but how many malware are going to spread? The Vidyartha College FaceBook virus already affected thousands of users whom’s school name was changed into Vidyartha College. The first signs of the virus were spotted yesterday, while today the problem is more serious, and I’d like to say that the Vidyartha College virus could have been in the FaceBook system for longer than yesterday.

At the moment FaceBook “officials” haven’t said a word about the virus or if it’s indeed a virus or if we’re talking about nothing more than a bug. A very annoying bug that everybody hopes it will go away soon. Reports say that this has happened in the past, but now the virus is not appearing on all FaceBook accounts, it spreads between friends therefore you should be careful on what you click, and on what applications you allow. Also it is unknown if it can harm your computer, steal data from your computer and more.

Stay tuned, as soon as we learn more, we will let you know of it.

  1. ou describe the Vidyartha problem as a virus but then later saying it might be just a bug, which is fine, if you read the actual article and know a little about IT, but unfortunately many of your readers are tweeting this headline as fact.

You probably know as well as I do that this is nothing more than a facebook glitch, and not a virus at all.

You would do well to report your stories with a little bit emphasis on truth and the facts, instead of writing attention seeking stories and headlines that people take as fact when re-tweeting, which only serves to cause more confusion and worry in users.

Well, you DID say it, you fool, and what a ridiculous supposition, made to sound like fact to all the folks who are trying to get news about it.

  4. Thankyou for your thoughtful response, Roshmax. I do not dispute that you may be a virus guru, however this article describes an issue that is NOT a virus, so that is a moot point.

I do not know everything, I would never claim to, however I know a fair amount about IT, having worked in the industry for 10 years, and having an interest in the subject for 20, so I would say I’m generally a bit more knowledgeable about the internet than the more casual user. Additionally, and this is a great help, where my knowledge lets me down, I can count on experienced colleagues who can fill me in so that I can understand something better before commenting on it.

You don’t have to believe me, but many others do because I’ve shown consistently that I know what I’m talking about, and can be trusted. In time perhaps you will come to trust me as well, but I won’t mind if you don’t: I’ll still continue to advise people on IT related matters with a clear conscience, by providing facts rather than scare stories.

I fail to see where you got ur facts from, What were the signs? where have you seen the signs? where are your statistics to claim that the problem is more serious? therefoe how you can claim that the situation (if any) has got worse?

“A computer virus is a computer program that can copy itself and infect a computer. The term “virus” is also commonly but erroneously used to refer to other types of malware, adware, and spyware programs that do not have the reproductive ability. A true virus can only spread from one computer to another (in some form of executable code) when its host is taken to the target computer; for instance because a user sent it over a network or the Internet, or carried it on a removable medium such as a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB drive. Viruses can increase their chances of spreading to other computers by infecting files on a network file system or a file system that is accessed by another computer.”

I maintain that the end user who looks after their computer(s) with good general house keeping, a good antivirus and firewall should have very little to worry about as long as they dont go around opening unknown files which could contain Trojans, Bots, rootkits and Virus’, which is of greater threat that the common “Oh my god! facebook has a virus, run for the freeking hills!”

As for “roshmax” do you even know how Trojans, Exploits, Bots, rootkits and virus’ work, let alone being able to tell the differences between them? I get the feeling that “roshmax” is indeed the creator of this artical and when presented with valid arguement, decided to act like a spoilt child.

In summary I suggest that all facts are considered before any scare stories are written!
