First Impressions On Google Wave
Just yesterday we were happily browsing the internet, just discovering Google and typing our first e-mail, days long gone by and since then the degree at which the internet has evolved is quite incredible. With all the multitude of web 2.0 applications and websites things can get a little confusing sometimes and quite frankly some of us wish for a new approach to the whole idea. That’s where Google Wave comes in; described by themselves as “a personal communication and collaboration tool” it’s a web-based communication platform designed to merge e-mail, instant-messaging, Wiki , and social networking.
In more human words, the general purpose of the web-based app is to share rich web 2.0 content such as YouTube videos, Google Maps, Twitter updates, Facebook comments, photos, blog updates and much more with your friends, all in a intuitive , user friendly interface that I’m sure you’ll like just as much as I did. The messages or posts are called waves. For example, you start a new wave in which you post a favorite YouTube video alongside with a Twitter update. Then you can choose which friends you want to “add to your wave”. After you do that, they can modify or add content to your wave, which is the main idea of the Wave, to have a real-time and collaborative way of virtually interacting with your buddies. But Google Wave is much more than that, you have at your disposal a whole range of gadgets that are meant to help and ease your work. There is also a “playback function” which lets you view specific moments of the wave, in a “video-like” way, in case you’ve come late.
All in all, Google Wave is an exciting upcoming web-app that has usability in both business and casual environments with the possibility of becoming great. For more photos and info visit this link.
