Netbooks Powered By Google’s Chrome OS To Be Released Next Month?
Last summer Google announced the Chrome OS, a software especially designed to netbooks which definitely require a light platform to run smoother. Although Google already develops Android, there was no need to re-write the OS in order to fit larger screen therefore the search giant decided to build Chrome OS. At the moment there are no early screenshots of the Chrome OS although we’ve seen a lot of fakes, and we can’t tell when we will see a set.
Chrome OS is destined for non-x86 chipsets, and it might become the leading netbook OS in China where people look for cheaper products. According to some industry sources, Chrome OS-powered netbooks will be unveiled soon in China. Although the full version of Chrome OS will not be available until next year, Google wants to test the software and how people react to such a light OS.
The same sources say that the Chrome OS will run on the Loongson 2F process which is based on MIPS that will result in very cheap netbooks (like they weren’t already cheap), even cheaper than the ones with Atom inside. The netbooks could be unveiled as soon as next month! At the moment these are only rumors, however Google promised us some news sometime in fall. Currently, we’re waiting.

i tried Chrome OS and it is pretty much like a scaled down version of Ubuntu. Chrome is just based on Linux and there is nothing new about it.
Chrome OS is just another rebranded Linux GUI, it would be much better if Google came up with an OS that would directly compete with Windows.
