Engadget is reporting that the BlackBerry 9700 aka Bold 2 codenamed Onyx is coming on October 21, fueling the rumors that have been surrounding the smartphone for months. The BlackBerry Bold 9000 was available only at AT&T at launch, but now the BlackBerry Onyx 9700 will come to both AT&T and T-Mobile US, and you’ll notice that there are some minor differences in the design. Personally, I think that the original Bold is the best BlackBerry smartphone ever, but the Bold 2 is now even better, and with some luck it will be based on BlackBerry OS 5.0.

The BlackBerry 9700 Bold 2 features an optical trackpad instead of the trackball, and of course the BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 that was released yesterday. Although the smartphone will be unveiled on October 21st, at the moment there are no details about when it hits retail stores, but we can expect that to happen very, very soon, and it could even be out before October ends as this is (you know) the month of smartphones.
