Windows Vista problems. Utorrent incompatibility with AMD x64 processors.

Since I made a fresh install of Windows Vista SP1 I observed an annoying problem that I couldn’t find any  solution to it in the beginning.

There problem was that my computer was “freezing” for a short amount of time, when the maximum download speed (in my case 6 MBs) was reached. That was happening even when I had only one torrent in download process, or the total amount of speed for two or three torrents was using the highest bandwidth.

I have searched for a solution and I have tried a lot of setting for uTorrent. I  must also say that I was having the same problem by using bitTorrent or Azureus.

Nothing worked.

In the beginning I thought that the problem was my onboard LAN adapter. So I have installed a PCI LAN adapter but the “freezes” still occurred.

I was searching through forums and advices, where I discovered that there are some problems with the optimization of the Dual Core AMD x64 processors (as in my case), but this wasn’t the solution. Even if you install the latest drivers for your processor you won’t solve the problem.

I must say that I have no knowledge that the problem is manifesting to Intel’s processors.

Still the solution came from the uTorrent forum where I found out that the advanced disk cache is the fault which by default is set to be activated for reading and writing.

These are the advanced disk cache setting that put an end to the “freeze”:
