A few days ago the Boy Genius Report decided to present a teaser video of the so-called Motorola Droid aka Sholes, and we knew from the beginning that it’s going to be great. We were 99% sure that the smartphone was powered by Android 2.0 Eclair, but BGR decided to gives us the inside story and promised us a full review soon. Our friends also posted a full set of Motorola Droid pictures besides information about the upcoming Android-powered handset.

Let’s see the most important aspects of the Motorola Droid:

  • Android 2.0 Eclair, the first smartphone in the world based on Google’s upcoming OS.
  • It’s heading to Verizon.
  • Droid is very thin, just a little thicker than Apple’s 3GS, and definitely the thinnest slider with full QWERTY in the world.
  • The fast Android-powered smartphone ever thanks to the OMAP3430 processor by Texas Instruments.
  • Huge capacitive display, and great QWERTY keyboard which is not in its final state as Motorola promised some enhancements.
  • It was designed, envisioned or whatever almost entirely by Google therefore we can expect Motorola not to put MOTOBLUR on, this means that the phone will run smoother because nobody will bug in with the core.
  • Droid will come packed with a desktop cradle, turning the handset into a multimedia station with weather information.
  • Superior to the Cliq, and definitely the fastest, probably the best Android smartphone so far.

At the moment there is no information about pricing or availability, but we can expect the Motorola Droid to become available soon after Google officially unveils Android 2.0 Eclair.

P.S. Actually, we expect Google to introduce Eclair using Motorola Droid, but we’ll hear more about that soon so stay tuned.

  • I really wish this phone was styled more elegantly… looks like a cheapo lg dare at first glance. In a perfect world Ferrari would start designing a phone…
