Ukrop’s sold to Royal Ahold NV, a dutch grocer
Royal Ahold NV, a dutch grocer, will acquire Ukrop’s Super Markets Inc., a Virginia super market chain valued at over $140 million. Royal Ahold NV reported on Thursday the deal will close in Q1 2010 and it will include all the 25 stores. Fortunately, Ahold’s Giant-Carlisle division will hire all the employees, so they don’t need to worry about it.
Ahold already holds two grocery stores in Virginia, called Giant and Martin. Ukrop will be owned by the Giant-Carlisle division after the acquisition, Giant-Carlisle being a company that operates stores in more states, like West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Two thirds of Ahold’s revenues come from the U.S. and now they want to expand their market here.
