Hydropolis, The Underwater Hotel in Dubai Due To Be Completed Soon

The financial crisis is not over yet, but those guys from Dubai never knew what’s up with this crisis. Tourism in United Arab Emirates is going great and in order to do that, the Arab sheiks are funding a lot of astonishing structures like the Burj Dubai, but the latest construction that will be opened in a few weeks is simply amazing.

The Hydropolis was designed by Joachim Hauser and construction began in 2005, and it was due to be completed by the end of 2006, but there were some technical difficulties like design issues, and the rough sea. That’s history now as the underwater hotel who cost £300 million will be completed in the next few weeks.

Although it’s not the first underwater hotel, Hydropolis is definitely the most extravagant underwater hotel. Hydropolis consists of the land station which will serve as welcome area, a connecting tunnel, and the 220-suite hotel. The underwater hotel is one of the biggest contemporary constructions, and it’s located at about 20-30 meters below the surface.

Joachim Hauser says that the underwater hotel could only be built in Dubai as it has a very open-minded, international community, but I think this can be done because they have money and a natural exoticness.

That’s just great, and now humans can live underwater. I bet you never thought that was possible!

“That’s just great, and now humans can live underwater. I bet you never thought that was possible!”

You are right, Buddy – there is no such thing!

Go to Dubai and check it out for yourself – and don´t forget your diving gear…

  2. Brent Thorkelson says:

Superman, how do you know this? why would they announce they are near completion if they are not really ready after all? They would end up laughingstocks and noone would ever invest in them again…

  3. Fools Gold says:

Scan Jumeirah Beach in google earth. There’s no such thing and that Google Earth shot that has been provided is a clear photoshop fake.

    • Brent Thorkelson says:

Ok, but then there is this mystery, why would a builder just go announce that a project is near completion when its not, it would completely ruin them, what would motivate someone to do something like that…

  4. Thorsten says:

This story is wrong. Hydropolis is not about to be finished, in fact construction has yet to be started. As others have pointed out there are no available images of construction or the site to be found. The official webpage: http://www.hydropolis.com/ has been offline for weeks.
“Due To Be Completed Soon” is a totally unfounded statement. The project has been on hold for years.

  5. Djoh says:

All you can see on google Maps at this position is some sand that they bring some time ago.

In fact I’m going to the beach next to it quite often, and there’s no work going on.

Like most of the huge crazy projects in dubai, this project got “postponed” for a lack of money. Dubai does not have anymore petrol or gaz, the only source of investment for such a project like that is investment and speculation.
It did work for the palm Jumeirah, but then the crisis hit the world and speculation on construction stopped.

I see now that some projects are starting again, builders and workers are back, cranes are moving again at the top of the buildings. But for how long ?

  6. Joan says:

just because someone writes something on the internet doesn’t mean it’s true!!

    • thorkelson says:

of course, we are not 5, and evidently construction on this never even started. But there is still a mystery that a real construction company with a real established reputation claimed to have this “almost finished”. Why would anyone make themselves look like such an obvious idiot and destroy whatever trust anyone could ever have in their other (real) enterprises?
